how we age, together

Put simply, 0 to 100+ is an effort to create photographs and collect thoughts about life from at least 4 people of every age (from birth to 100+).

Much like life itself, 0 to 100+ is far from simple and it represents so many things. It’s a story of how we humans age individually and collectively. It’s a visual catalog of many of my friends, family members and complete strangers. It’s an effort to discover universal truths about the aging process while accepting that many of us are still figuring out life’s many questions. It’s a way to explore and celebrate the visual diversity of human faces, styles and cultures. It’s a way to reminisce about years you’ve passed in your own life, and to wonder who and how you’ll be as you reach the years ahead of you.

See the faces, read the answers and discover how interesting and varied every year of our lives can be.

0 to 100+ was started in 2016 by Ahamed Iqbal (me) and is still ongoing. To find out more please start with the about page, or contact me directly. And if you or someone you know would like to be part of the project, please see the join page

While I invite you take your own personal journey through the faces and answers I’ve put together, there are a lot of photos and even more answers. With that in mind, definitely take your time and if you’d like guidance here are a few different ways to experience the project. Wandering your own way is also highly encouraged.

  • My way: Personally, I would start with a quick look at the about page, then spend a long time looking at the all faces page. After that, I’d go to the different answers pages and wonder which people said which things while thinking about what my own answers would be. Next I would head to the images and gradually work my way through the ages, making sure to take breaks considering there are more than 3,000 answers to read. Finally I would think about if I knew anyone I know who might be interested in participating in the project and tell them about the join page

  • Somebody you know: If you’re looking for someone you know (and/or yourself) I first want to say thanks for helping me with 0 to 100+. The easiest way to find a specific person would be to go the names page. You’ll see the names and ages in alphabetical order with links to the image and answer page where the person appears. If you are up for a challenge, you could also go the all faces page and try to literally find your face in the crowd

  • Face first: Start with looking at the all faces page. As you scroll through the different people ordered by age, you can think about who they are, their age is and how they might respond to the questions. Feel free to just stare at one, many or all of the 360+ faces for as long as you like. Not surprisingly I think faces and the humans who have them are fascinating, so I can promise that I understand how you feel

  • Information first: Before seeing any of the images, go through the questions and then the answers so you have an idea of what sort of responses people made. You might also wonder how you would respond to the questions (both now and in years past/yet to come). You may also find as I did that it’s harder than you think to figure out which age expressed which answer to a question. Once you’re done informing yourself you can head to the images section to see the answers arranged with the portrait and age of the person who said them. If you want to find out more about the project at this point, check out the about page

  • Compare and contrast: If you’re curious about what people look and think like at a specific age (your current, past, future age or a random one) I would suggest going to the images page which will guide you to the quarter and the 5 year range you’re looking for. This is also an interesting approach if you wonder how your children, parents, or other family or friends might look or think in the future or how they may have been in their younger days. This approach allows you observe and consider how you and those around you compare to others at the same point in their journey through life

  • Full information: If you feel most comfortable when you have all the available information I would suggest first starting with the about page to learn more about 0 to 100+. From there review the questions I created for 0 to 100+ and think and then read the answers organized by question. Next check out the images of each person with their answers listed below their portrait. Finally you can view just the faces together here with a better understanding of who the people are. And if you happen to have any questions or need more information you can contact me here
