the questions

Below you’ll find the questions that I asked everyone who took part in 0 to 100+ along with a link to the page of answers. I put a lot of thought into crafting the these and my main challenge was to make questions that were simple enough for children to understand but also broad enough to allow for deeper answers. The questions reflect many of the same things I wonder about the aging process and curiosities I have about other people. While these few questions can’t give us a complete understanding of who a person is, the answers I’ve received have taught me new, enlightening and often funny views on life.

People were not required to answer any of the questions and I made sure not to clarify them at all so I didn’t influence their answers one way or the other. I made sure not to limit how long people took to answer the each of the questions and only asked the next question when they paused or let me know they were done. The only people who didn’t ask questions were very young children who weren’t speaking at the time and roughly 50 people who I interviewed before adding “when do people become old” to the questions.

Most interviews were conducted in English (with a few in Tamil) and I recorded them all on paper by hand. Whenever possible I tried to ask each person for their answers individually so their answer wouldn’t be influenced by a family member or friend. Because of my less than perfect handwriting any errors in what they said are completely my doing.
